Kharkiv State Academy of Culture (KhSAC) is a dynamic, forward-looking institution of higher education preparing students for professional careers in a wide variety of fields, such as social communication and information, business and administration, psychology, culture and arts. Its unique feature is that education is carried out in one academic complex with strong interdisciplinary links, which made it possible for the Academy to become one of the top centres of culture and education in Ukraine.
Established in 1929, KhSAC had long been the only higher education institution providing competent specialists for the cultural sector of Ukraine. It was the first in Ukraine to start education in library and information science (LIS) and, later, in cultural studies. Kyiv National University of Culture and Arts, as well as Rivne State Humanitarian University first appeared as affiliated institutions of KhSAC.
Today the Academy is a modern university-type institution accredited at the highest, 4th level, providing the best education in the country in LIS and cultural studies. The Academy offers a broad range of bachelor and master degree programmes in 10 subject areas (specialities) of 6 fields of study: “Culture and Arts”, “Humanitarian Sciences”, “Social and Behavioural Sciences”, “Management and Administration”, “Journalism”, “Service Sector”. Over the years of its existence Kharkiv State Academy of Culture has educated over 40,000 professionals, including more than 400 international students from 42 countries of Europe, Asia, Africa, Latin America. Many international graduates of KhSAC occupy top positions at the ministries and cultural institutions in their countries.
Mission Statement: The education process in the Academy is aimed at the formation of a creative attitude to the chosen speciality, to the development of practical skills which enable graduates to solve professional issues in the most effective way. The main objective of teaching is to develop in future specialists the systemic approach to the solution of complicated managerial and social situations, strategic thinking, social and professional mobility, lifelong striving for self-education and self-improvement.
Key Dates
Standard Admission:
1 of October – application deadline (request an Invitation to study).
25 of October – arrival deadline (the final date you must arrive at the University).
Late Admission:
30 of January – application deadline (request an Invitation to study).
25 of February – arrival deadline (the final date you must arrive at the University).
There are no application deadlines (request an Invitation to study).
But you have to arrive at the University during the 6 months after you have gotten an Invitation.
1 of May-15 of August – a period when the Preparatory Department does not accept new arrivals.
Admission Process
First stage (before arrival):
1. Request the University for an Invitation to study in Ukraine.
2. Collect all required documents for getting Student Visa for Ukraine.
3. Notify the University about your arrival date and time. It is a must requirement! In case you don’t do that, the University will not be able to send a Confirmation letter to the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine. As a result, you will be you will be banned from entering the country and you will be sent back home right from the Ukrainian airport.
Second stage (after arrival):
1. Bring the required package of documents to the University.
2. Pass an interview on the main subjects of a chosen specialty (e.g. Math, Chemistry etc.) if necessary.
3. Make a payment for the study and hostel.
4. Pass a medical examination.
5. Open a bank account.
6. Temporary residence permit for students in Ukraine.
