I. Horbachevsky Ternopil National Medical University (TNMU) is a state medical university in Ternopil and the largest medical school in western Ukraine. It is known for high-quality training of doctors, dentists, pharmacists and nurses, including many international students, and combines the classical traditions of medical education with modern clinical and scientific approaches.
The university was founded in 1957 as Ternopil Medical Institute, became a State Medical Academy in 1997, Ivan Horbachevsky Ternopil State Medical University in 2004 and later received national status. It carries the name of the outstanding Ukrainian scientist Ivan Horbachevsky. TNMU was the first university in Ukraine to adopt the American nursing programme, and its International Students Faculty was set up in 2006.
TNMU has 58 departments, 36 of them clinical, working in 25 regional and city hospitals with more than 5,000 beds. Medicine is taught in English or Ukrainian; Dentistry, Pharmacy and Nursing are offered in English.
International applicants apply through the official Study in Ukraine system with their passport and school certificate (apostilled, with Ukrainian translation), then sit an online or in-person entrance test (for Medicine: biology and the language of study, 24 multiple-choice questions each). Intakes: autumn semester until 1 November, spring semester until 1 March.
