Danylo Halytsky Lviv National Medical University (LNMU) is a state medical university of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine and one of the oldest and most prestigious medical universities in the country. Its history dates back to 16 November 1784, when the medical faculty of Lviv University gave its first lecture. It became an independent medical institute in 1939, a university in 1996 and received national status in 2003. In September 2026 its Academic Council voted to rename it Lviv National Medical University named after King Danylo.
The university has a strong scientific school and a modern clinical base: 15 teaching buildings, a simulation training centre, a library of about 650,000 items, its own dental medical centre and clinical departments in leading hospitals. It actively cooperates with international educational and medical institutions, and its graduates work in many countries of the world.
Foreign students have studied here since 1961 and in English since 1997; today more than 800 international students from almost 30 countries study at LNMU, most of them in English.
International students apply for an electronic invitation through the official Study in Ukraine portal with their passport and school certificate (with apostille and Ukrainian translation). Admission includes entrance tests in English (or Ukrainian) and Chemistry, and can be done in person or remotely. For 2026, applications were accepted from 1 June to 20 October.
