Bukovinian State Medical University (BSMU) is a state medical university of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine in Chernivtsi and one of the leading medical universities in the country. It trains doctors, dentists, pharmacists and other healthcare professionals, combining classical medical education with modern clinical and scientific approaches.
The university was founded on 20 October 1944, when the Second Kyiv Medical Institute was moved to Chernivtsi and became the Chernivtsi State Medical Institute; it received university status in 2005. Over the decades BSMU has become an important scientific and educational centre of Bukovina and Western Ukraine, with a strong clinical base, modern laboratories and international ties. It is a member of the European University Association.
Medicine, Dentistry and Pharmacy are taught in English and Ukrainian; BSMU has long experience with international students from India, Nigeria, Ghana, Pakistan, Ethiopia, Sudan, the USA and many other countries.
International students apply for an invitation to study with their school certificate (with grades in biology and chemistry), passport and photo, then apply for a study visa. A motivation letter is part of the application.
